About

Deepa Ramaswamy

I’m Deepa. I’m an engineer, a builder, and someone who enjoys helping people discover what they can do with technology. Handwerk AI brings those interests together.

I spent more than thirty years in engineering and leadership, helping teams turn complex ideas into products people could rely on. As a Chief Engineer at Ford Motor Company, I helped guide new technologies from development into real-world use. I bring that same practical mindset to AI: explore what’s possible, understand the limitations, and build something useful.

With AI, I’ve worked at several scales—from leading strategy and organizing a two-day build event for more than 650 participants to building tools for my own use. Those include a personal MCP server, which connects an AI assistant with other tools and information. I’ve also taught introductory classes to groups and individuals and helped individual learners build their own AI applications.

What excites me most about AI is what it can help people do: explore an interest, make an everyday task easier, bring an idea to life, or find a better way to work together. That’s why I’m passionate about teaching it, and why I started Handwerk AI in Canton, Michigan. I want individuals, community groups, and companies to have the confidence and practical skills to make these tools useful in their own lives and work.

You don’t need an engineering background to begin. Bring your curiosity and an idea you’d like to try; the workshops provide guidance and space to turn it into something useful.
